Letter to Liverpool Echo, March 2023

NERVE TO ASK FOR SYMPATHY

Steve Baker, member of ERG and ardent Brexiteer has revealed that he has suffered a "major mental health crisis" due to the stress of Brexit.

Sarah Vine, ex-wife of Michael Give, Daily Mail columnist and ardent Brexiteer, says that Brexit cost her her dearest friendships and marriage.

How dare they try to garner sympathy for the Brexit monster they were instrumental in creating!

Rhetorical question!

Compulsory reading for them should be "In Limbo: Brexit testimonies from EU citizens in the UK" and "In Limbo Too: Brexit testimonies from UK citizens in the EU" by Elema Remigi.

These books give personal testaments of lives destroyed after having the rug pulled out from under them after choosing to live in an EU country other than their own. Families have been torn apart, homes lost and marriages and dreams destroyed.

About 700,000 UK citizens living in other EU countries and 3.3 million EU citizens living in the UK were denied a vote in the referendum even though it would have a major impact on their life.

This disgraceful disenfranchisement without a doubt swung the referendum result.

It beggars belief that it was allowed to happen.

I know where my sympathies lie.
