Genie: It is done, you will become a Supreme Court justice

Abe Fortas: Hell yeah

Genie: ...but only for four years.

Abe Fortas: Oh come on! Can I at least be cited as a role model for another longer-serving justice?

Genie: Hm. Okay, deal.

Abe Fortas: Great. Thank you.

Abe Fortas: Hey, why did that monkey's paw on your end table just curl a finger

Clarence Thomas should follow the Abe Fortas precedent and resign gracefully

Justice Clarence Thomas can still redeem himself.

The Hill
Somewhere in the US, a man who calls himself the world's foremost scholar on Abe Fortas's legacy is getting his suit cleaned for the first time this decade and yelling "cancel my schedule for the week" to his imaginary assistant
@jbe It is striking how the ethical and reputational standards have fallen between these two cases. It was unacceptable that Fortas wouldn’t leave the court and unimaginable that Thomas will.
@jbe Clarence Thomas has no shame. He will never retire because “Why?” He gets to dictate what happens to people and he gets to travel to places much better than Walmart parking lots on other people’s dime and his mother lives rent free. And absolutely no consequences except a little bad PR that doesn’t affect him in the least.
@zemsgram
The US is clearly in a DARVO era of politics these days; no reason Thomas wouldn't gleefully join the chorus of shameless politicos
