Our paper on the use of comparative genomics as a tool in the conservation efforts of Lepidoptera is finally out! https://lnkd.in/dRPuPYuk. We show that the analysis of a single diploid genome in a comparative phylogenetic context can provide relevant genetic information to prioritize species for future conservation investigation, particularly for those with an unknown conservation status.
Although we are aware that sequencing data alone are not sufficient to tackle the complex issue of biodiversity loss, we hope to convince you that they provide a start, allowing attention to be focused on more in-depth studies. These can involve further population genomic sequencing of additional samples from the focal site and/or from additional sites, as well as more traditional conservation ecology approaches.
We hope that the comparative genomics analyses made available through this study will provide a route towards the application of genomics-informed conservation programmes across the great diversity of invertebrate species. A big thank to all the amazing people from the Darwin Tree of Life Project that made this reserch possible! #biodiversity #conservation #comparativegenomics #PacBio #DarwinTreeofLife #Ensembl #emblebi #sangerinstitute #wellcometrust
