Biochemist Marie Maynard Daly, who studied correlations between heart attacks and cholesterol, and between smoking and lung disease, was born #OTD in 1921. Daly was also part of the team that established the primary nucleic acid bases.

She was the first Black woman to receive a chemistry PhD in the US.

@mcnees - Loads of respect for these pioneers. Can’t imagine the education and work environments they endured.
@mcnees thankfully more and more people are beginning to realize the cholesterol hypothesis is dead and no, cholesterol is not responsible for heart disease. Everyone needs to look at their triglyceride/HDL level and make sure that is good. That is what causes inflammation in the body from eating refined carbs and impacts heart disease. Eat Low carb and good fats and your heart and brain will thrive.
