Today is the 161 year anniversary of the Compensated Emancipation Act. On April 16, 1862, Washington D.C. paid reparations for ending slavery—to the enslavers.

Yep—white supremacist enslavers got reparations for giving up the people they enslaved. The enslaved got nothing. Ever.

To this day the enslaved or their descendants have received zero reparations for building the foundation of America under centuries of enslavement, torture, rape, & murder.

And the same thing happened here in 1832 when slavery was outlawed in the UK. MP, Richard Drax, from Dorset, antecedents were gifted vast amounts of 'compensation' for the 'loss' of their enslaved human beings. He's still hugely rich. Our soon to be crowned 'King' is deeply implicated in profiting from slavery too. Only ex-BBC Laura Trevelyan has stepped up and offered to fund reparations as well as she can.

At least king charles is funding research into the monarchies ties to slavery. Whether he will do anything about that knowledge is debatable.
