Good morning!
I've just posted an article on LinkedIn called "How to approach #Marketing on #Mastodon?"

I know it's a touchy subject. We do not really like ads on the network. However, I am making the point that, on #Fediverse, the most important aspects of a toot are quality, giving to the community through quality of interactions, and inclusivity.

With the rise of the network, it's a matter of time until we see large companies trying. (1/2)

How to approach Marketing on Mastodon?

You might have heard about it in many places over the past few months.: Mastodon and its distributed ecosystem this the new kid on the block for microblogging.

I am trying to influence the behaviour on the platform to not destroy our values.

If you can, read it, and if you agree, try to reshare it to as many people as possible (LinkedIn, Mastodon, even Twitter if you must :)).

Let's attempt to guide these big players to interact in a constructive way.

Thanks a lot for your #help!

@dimi I don't know about you, Dimi, but I intend to approach all #marketing in #mastodon with a two-by-four in my hand, or perhaps a baseball bat with some nails in it.

marketing *shouldn't exist*, as far as I'm concernedβ€”I don't want it here or anywhere else in public. I don't wanted it "guided" anywhere but away from this place completely.

I know that's an unrealistic goal, perhaps, but I've watched too many social media succumb to advertising. PURGE that stuff, I say.

@thepnictogenwing I know it's a touchy subject... But as we live in a consumer(ist) society, the reality is that a lot of money is spent on marketing. There are a lot of people avidly following brands and being super exited about new products (I'm part of the group sometimes) - Think about the engagement of the Apple fans queuing in front of the store when a new product is launched...
I think, if it's done right, it can be beneficial for the network (and we always have the "unfollow" opt)
