The only reason I can think of why everyone gives them slack is nostalgia. But if that really is the case, then I can't help but ask: are y'all stupid??
They're making you buy the same hardware and the same games with a new brush of paint over and over, and once they're done milking your wallet dry, they stalk, harass and intimidate anyone who dares to mention their name publicly.
@saagar @siguza I agree that they could be better working with the modding and competitive community to incorporate good ideas into their games. E.g forcing closure of fan run competitive smash tournament or aggressively pursuing modders is lame and often counter productive.
But a lot of the piracy and leakers I think are free game for lawyers.
Regardless, I will be playing Tears of the Kingdom :)
@saagar @siguza also I think the DLC thing is industry wide, not just Nintendo.
The selling multiple versions of a game has gotten annoying (and profit hungry) but the original idea Pokémon Red and Blue seems to actually have come from a genuine feeling of hoping for social interaction through link cables with a friend who has the other version.
@siguza although I ❤️ Nintendo, I really wish they’d get rid of their heavy handed use of copyright enforcement and low key threats to people in the community who, nine times out of ten, are literally just fans. I can see where they want to draw the line wanting to take NSFW reproductions of games or something of that nature.
Not a Nintendo game but I’m still playing that stupid Japanese train game on my 3DS cause of their use of real world footage.
@siguza it’s that sort of niche creativity I love about Nintendo stuff, wish they’d open up their consoles more to indie developers, this is something Valve will always be ahead of them on and honestly I believe Nintendo neglects the indie communities more than they think they do.
imho the switch/nx is a massive shift from Nintendo making something unique, and I think the games suffer cause of it.
