If you’re the same age as me you may well have a similar photo tucked away somewhere. I’m awfully glad we don’t do this anymore.

#anthropomorphic #animals

@CatherineRussell2 a few years younger than you but yes. Ours is a group photo taken in Spain. A thing we only ever did once, thankfully my dad realised how wrong it was.
@CatherineRussell2 Love this photo. I do love the socks. I agree. We have a zoo called Taronga Zoo. It is here that I went on elephant rides back in the day, and mixed with different animals. Of course overtime it has change where people can no longer touch the animals. 🐘🐒🐧🐨
@CatherineRussell2 I often see things happening in this world and think how awful it is, then I see a picture like this and it makes you realise as individuals how far we have come and how much we have changed. These photos are our history and shouldn’t be destroyed as they encourage us to keep going forward, and show the young what not to do.
@jennyjr Exactly. We have come a long way with regards to many of our attitudes - and I think mostly for the better.
@Aprilsmum There we go. Another time.
@CatherineRussell2 @Aprilsmum I have one too, taken on Brighton pier - they are still doing it with slightly drugged lion cubs in French markets, if the fair is in town, or were a few years ago!

@suevickersthompson @CatherineRussell2 @Aprilsmum That is hard to fathom in this day and age Sue.

In 2021, it was confirmed that both Stardust and Lennon Bros, the only two circuses using exotic animals in Australia (such as lions and monkeys) are no longer using exotic animals. This means that there are no exotic animal circuses in Australia! I am so glad this has happened.

@NuddaOz @CatherineRussell2 @Aprilsmum Yes, we thought so when we last saw a cub, who appeared happy with the fuss it was getting, although Mum, in a crate, wasn't happy. Children were able to pick it up - my StepD no 1 did this as an 11yr old, 45 years ago & was mesmerised when it feel asleep on her! But I was horrified to see it again about 5-7 years ago - no longer ago than that, I think.
@CatherineRussell2 think l must have been about 4/5 which makes it about 1970/71. Looks like we had similar shoes on.
@CatherineRussell2 lovely photo and I agree, I'm glad we don't do this anymore.
@CatherineRussell2 Yes unfortunately we have a similar photo to yours Catherine. Mine was taken with my brother and sister and the poor creature when I was very little. I'm sure it's the kind of thing none of us would ever dream of doing now though. XxX
@CatherineRussell2 I didn’t meet any little monkeys in clothes like these, but a man brought his (unclothed) albino chimpanzee to play on the “monkey bars” at my school, and my kindergarten teacher invited them in. We sat in a circle and the chimpanzee gently shook hands with each of us. I was probably wearing the same shoes you have on in the picture. I can’t believe people were allowed to keep chimpanzees as pets. Different times.
@tracytwilson @CatherineRussell2 You know what annoys me the most, is seeing Australia's native animals being used as pets in other countries. Mainly kangaroos being walked around on a lead and inside people's lounge rooms. We don't even do that here that I am aware off. 😡
@CatherineRussell2 Have one more or less the same, different times.
@CatherineRussell2 precious picture. Tall little girl. With moneys. Looks like a great pose for a painting.hehehe
@CatherineRussell2 I just missed that ‘pleasure’ but there’s a similar photo of my sister
@CatherineRussell2 no my parents wouldn’t allow it
