🎊🍾🥳 MASTODON JUST REACHED 11 MILLION REGISTERED ACCOUNTS!!! 🥳🍾🎊

That’s 1 million new accounts created in the past month!

@atomicpoet and there was no "spike".

This is organic growth. I suspect the next million to take a little less time and to see mastodon to double in about a year.

@atomicpoet As we say in Germany: "Mühsam ernährt sich das Eichhörnchen" Congrats!
@chake what does that saying actually mean? The translate app is telling me "The squirrel feeds itself laboriously," but surely that's missing something!

@tuningmind @chake
It is used when you want to briefly describe a tedious activity that requires patience but that will succeed in the end

"hows it going with <task>"

"Mühsam ernährt sich das Eichhörnchen!"

@Zitruskeks @tuningmind couldn't have worded that any better!
@chake @Zitruskeks
What a delightful image that brings to mind!

@atomicpoet

That last million came on fast. Now I wonder when we are going to see all the haters and other shitheads we seen at twitter and other places

@lfalkens @atomicpoet that’s the neat part. They’ll be the last over here, and all the best servers will already be saturated, stable, and not willing to put up with their bs. Which means they’ll end up on new instances that everyone else can block. It’ll be a struggle for people trying to make a new respectable instance tho. Hopefully we develop some more robust filtering methods by then.

@Zaini @atomicpoet

Yes, I understood that part and that I could end up being on a server where many shitheads would force me to change server or build my own.

Are there some way of have my postings not visible to people not on my friends list? Would be nice to be able to separate different kind of postings in the same way as I can on Facebook

@lfalkens @atomicpoet you mean, this? Yes, the visibility of your posts determines who can see them. And if you turn on follow requests, you can stop spammers from following you.

@Zaini @atomicpoet

Yes, that might be what I'm looking for.

Thank you

I don't understand why it's good to grow so much. Especially since this migration doesn't concern the whole Fédiverse but only Mastodon. At this rate, Mastodon will become a Twitter bis, with all the flaws and problems that Twitter has drained.
@moussieri Actually, the whole Fediverse is growing. Misskey is growing at a faster rate than Mastodon.
@@atomicpoet
It seems there is more interest in microblogging than in other software like Hubzilla or Friendica.
Hubzilla just reached 10.000 user count ;) What was Mastodon again? ;)

@atomicpoet

So, 20.000.000 (or more) by the end of the year… :)

@atomicpoet
How many accounts are really in use?

@sol @atomicpoet
https://mastodon-analytics.com/

~1.2M monthly active users for Mastodon according to the Stats API, out of ~6.6M total. (The usercount bot actually counts Fediverse users, since it uses instances.social figures, which includes non-Mastodon AP servers.)

I've been watching the MAU number closely, since it (unsurprisingly) has dropped steadily since the Muskocalypse, but it's started creeping up again over the last week and a half or so.

Mastodon Analytics

How many users, active users, servers are on Mastodon?

Mastodon Analytics

@slyborg @sol However, remember that the stats API doesn't count everything, just what it can find.

Other tracking sites count higher numbers.

Also, while MAUs have gone down, HYAUs are now at their peak.

@atomicpoet @sol
I actually find the reported MAU numbers indicative of solid engagement if 20% of all accounts ever created are actively using the platform considering that the birdsite is still there.

@slyborg @sol Sure, but keep in mind that fediverse.observer counts 7.2M, the-federation.info counts 8.5M, and @mastodonusercount counts 11M.

Likewise, I suspect MAUs is somewhere between 1.1M and 2.5M.

Somewhere in there is truth.

@atomicpoet Next stop 100 000 000
Bye Twitter!

Welcome to the Fediverse

@atomicpoet I’m one in a million!😂
@atomicpoet what is happening?!🤯
@atomicpoet let's see what happens If Elon continues with his tactics. For eg this 15 April bs 💀💀
How I found a new home online at Mastodon, after giving up on Twitter

More like a village than a city, Mastodon has less cruelty and bad-faith debates than Twitter, in my experience Could it be a social media platform to trust, asks Annalee Newitz

New Scientist
@atomicpoet what percentage are proboganda bots immigrating g from the birdshite?
@atomicpoet that's why it's so important to pay for this service! growth is expensive!
@atomicpoet It would be great to have statistics about "active accounts" for the past 2-3 months now 💡 .
