You know, when one of my coworkers goes on vacation, I often know where they went, and I work with far more than just eight people.

We should assume that all of the Justices knew about Thomas, and went along with covering it up. Yes, even the Justices we like.

Remember how great it was supposed to be that RBG was good friends with Scalia? No way she did not know.

@Malaclypse Yeah, that fact did not make me appreciate RBG more.

But also the weird way in which everyone in the legal field has to be deferential to judges, and especially SCOTUS justices is longterm unhealthy. If everyone you interact with is trying to fluff you up, it's gonna mess with your worldview. Even on the bird site, the owner and richest man in the world gets called a moron pretty directly by everyone. But one would never tell Thomas "that's a dumb question."

@Malaclypse Olbermann's pod yesterday (?) pointed out that Sotomayor got a 7-figure book advance, just like Barrett did. SC justices may be "underpaid' compared to their elite status but we have to convince them to be content with prestige, not toys and funtimes.
