If you're shocked TX Gov Abbot is planning to pardon Daniel Perry for murdering a man at a peaceful BLM march—just remember—TX is the state that sentenced a Black woman to 5 years for an uncounted ballot, but not a white male judge for deliberate voter fraud—in the same County. TX sentenced a Black kid to 10 years for punching & killing 1 person, but not an affluent white teen for getting drunk & killing 4—they had the same judge

Texas GOP has proudly chosen fascism over democracy. Believe them

@QasimRashid Texas is just weird - Has some of the best universities in the world - but is full of ignoramus's???

@Probertd8 @QasimRashid

Texas does have some fine universities. But among the best in the world? I find that hard to believe.

I lived there in 2008 when the University of Texas at Austin cut its professors' wages while raising the football coach's annual salary from $2-million to $5-million.

UT was a C-grade school before then, and that didn't improve it any.

@johnlogic @QasimRashid I mean any metrics are always going to be subjective - But Austin Texas University - I mean it comes up in so many research findings from a publication like The New Scientist.

@Probertd8 @QasimRashid

UT Austin is one of the USA's 10 largest, so I expect that its having more students contributes to you seeing more papers from its students.

https://www.worldatlas.com/society/the-10-largest-universities-in-the-united-states.html

The 10 Largest Universities In The United States

There are approximately 4,500 institutions of higher education in the United States. These are the ten largest public universities in the US by enrollment in the 2021-2022 school year.

WorldAtlas
@johnlogic @QasimRashid John rather unsurprisingly Texas Universities generally have a lot of money to spend - that attracts a lot of talent.
Anyway my old line is - If I was giving out stars for US states I'd give Texas a lone one.

@Probertd8 @QasimRashid

For Texas universities, this is the order I'm used to:
1. Rice
2. UT Austin
3. Texas A&M
from https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/tx

UT has about 10x the size of Rice.

I've worked with a few very bright people from Rice, and many perfectly adequate people from UT.

@johnlogic @QasimRashid Overall I stand by my statement - caveats accepted.
@QasimRashid I would contend fascism *and* racism are the pillars they stand on.
@admin @QasimRashid Yes, and also misogyny and homophobia, the big four.
@QasimRashid Texas looks a lot like Russia right now. 🤬

@damnkimberlee @QasimRashid

Texas will look more like Russia when it invades New Mexico.

(Knowing something about Texans, I expect that many would be surprised to learn that it's one of the United States.)

@QasimRashid Texas... a Hard Pass for me... I like real freedom, not the #Republican version...
@QasimRashid
I spent a decade in Texas, during my flight training year.🙁

@QasimRashid I keep wondering, "What if #DanielPerry had been threatened by Kyle #Rittenhouse?" 🤔

It's now impossible to convict *anyone* involved in a gunfight in Texas or Florida.

...as long as you're white.

@QasimRashid Hey, isn't the governor of that same state standing for the Presidency or something?
@QasimRashid Not just fascism, but obviously racism as well.
@QasimRashid Also, hung Sandra Bland in a Texas jail cell. A woman who died for a traffic violation! I will never ever forgive Texas. 🔥
@QasimRashid fuck you #gregabbott !
It's a shame that Oak tree spared your sorry ass!!🤬🤬🤬

@QasimRashid

When ppL teLL us LiberaL states have the worst crime:

@QasimRashid
You do not want to live in Texas period. The Government in Texas is, well, lacking any measurable intelligence. If you are not white, Texas is not the place for you.
@Nostradamus @QasimRashid
Its also not the place for you if you're LGBTQIA and for women. Its fast becoming Gillead.

@Nostradamus @QasimRashid

I live in #Texas. My #county #government is amazing. This is true for the urban areas.

@QasimRashid
Texas is a nightmare state full of misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and gun lovers. A full on MAGA state that needs to be boycotted by all decent individuals. The way things are going there are going to be needed volunteers to set up an underground railroad to help all minorities and many women escape that rotten state.

@QasimRashid what's the quote?

"When someone tells you who they are, believe them."?

@QasimRashid Texas is showing you exactly who they are and what they stand for. Let Texas secede.

@John_G_R_Wilson @QasimRashid And let all the Black, immigrant, poor, female, and LGBTQ people living there be damned? And to hell with the legacies of people like Ann Richards and Molly Ivins.

That’s a helluva lot of hostages you’re willing to sacrifice to voter suppression and gerrymandering, is what I am trying to say. Maybe address that before turning your back on millions of people?

@QasimRashid

Don't write #Texas off. Your median Texan is blue, not red - Texas' population is clustered in #blue cities and counties that are under attack from the #RedState #government.

One of the things that cheeses me is all the out-of-state Dems coming to my inbox to ask for money. If we're sending money to y'all, we're not using it to improve our own situation.

@ducker not writing Texas off at all. That’s why I specified Texas GOP at the end of the post. More democrats in Texas then in New York. It is only a matter of time before Texas flips blue and I can’t wait to see it happen.

@QasimRashid @ducker
I can remember when Texas was blue, governor-wise, Ann Richards.

Arizona too, tho the tide is turning there already.

I think Fox corruptive fake news has had quite a run, did a lot of damage. Hopefully the tide is turning there too.

@QasimRashid

"Apparently those racist fucks forgot how badly they lost the Alamo" - the wheel that locks and makes Abbott spin like a Dreidel
