We talked through what was going on with the wider newsroom this AM, which gave me a chance to share the "Mastodon 101 for Journalists" guide I wrote for the newsroom.

@gbhnews I think adding something about how posts propagate, and explaining that the federated feed is NOT all of the fediverse would be good. Itā€™s a point of major confusion

@gbhnews @voron There is a old (bubble-)map how several #fediverse services and protocols overlap (and which not)..

It's a bit outdated sadly, pleroma does no longer support ostatus and some other changes happened recently.. But it gives a good broad overview:

I recently had again contact with him and he shared a updated image somewhere.. But well you know ... searching for a post from more than a week ago ... yikes. sorry. ;)

@hackbyte @gbhnews @voron For Easter, I fasted social media for a couple of days. I realized the demands of my community growing dramatically, and constantly being in the mindset of creating content left little space for mindful reflection. But during this time, I also realized how much I had grown dependent on social media for news and News trends during the pandemic. I realized with one return to NPRā€™s 1A weekly round up and me intentionally sourcing news, how much had changed in at least my consumption of news updates. I also wished these news outlets used social media better. šŸ«£
