NPR quits Twitter: This feels like a milestone in the quick moving disaster of Musk's Twitter. Also, well written article.

@somebitslinks Hope they show up here soon!
@somebitslinks Now they should spin up their own mastodon host on npr.org, start posting their stories there, open accounts for all their journalists. It's not enough to leave Twitter, they need to go somewhere better, and take their audience with them.
@somebitslinks and while you are there, please consider supporting a free and independent media. #NPR https://www.npr.org/donations/support
@somebitslinks you demanded freedom and now you complain? ... before if a Russian company was labeled as a Russian company, no one complains ... if a Chinese company is labeled as a Chinese company, who cares ... but now if an American company is labeled as an American company then everything is wrong and it's a horror ... pobres gringuitos están locos !!
@csaltos By "company", do you mean "state-controlled media"? These two mean very different things in English, and I'm trying to work out if this is misunderstanding or mistranslation.
@csaltos @somebitslinks There's a difference between literally having the government decide editorial, which was the case for the Russian and Chinese labeled orgs, and a fully independent organization.

@somebitslinks

Here is the funniest part: NPR is leaving Musksite for the wrong reason. It is a publicly funded institution, and it should be called out as such 🤣

I'm not complaining though. I hope this starts a domino effect where orgs leave Twitter en-masse.

@somebitslinks What was kind of twisted about this move by Musk is that VOA (Voice of America) News, which actually IS state sponsored propaganda was not labelled as such. NPR does get some US federal government funding, but most of it is somewhat arms length. This was more a petty vendetta by a billionaire than anything else.
