Please sign this petition to ask the government to commit to not amending the Equality Act's definition of sex and remove protection for trans people.

The Government has previously committed to not remove legal protections for trans people, an already marginalised group, but this change would do so.

Petition: Commit to not amending the Equality Act's definition of sex

It has been reported that the Government may amend the Equality Act to "make it clear that sex means biological sex rather than gender." The Government has previously committed to not remove legal protections for trans people, an already marginalised group, but this change would do so.

Petitions - UK Government and Parliament

Although I appreciate this is asking the government to stop doing the things the government are doing so it has limited value I guess.

So, if you have a Labour MP maybe write them an email expressing your disappointment that Keir Starmer is supporting the Tory government with this prejudiced and unworkable plan.

@velobetty I do have a Labour MP but like many he seems absent when it comes to voting on these things. Angela Raynor is MP in a neighbouring area and even she seems less vocal these days 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Isla_Wren I'm writing to mine tomorrow. I've already written to her to ask her to support trans people and she didn't reply. She's good on cycling infrastructure but it's yet to be revealed if she's a transphobe.
@velobetty I think many will sway with the wind on transgender issues at the moment for popularity. Not nice but it is what it is. We live in a time when we have ethnic minority MPs gleefully not treating migrants very ethically. We'll hopefully see better times but I don't expect a great deal from Starmer.
@Isla_Wren No, he's about as close to Tory as you can get without being actually Tory really.

@velobetty sadly Labour are about as far from “opposition” as can be. They’ve seen how the red wall voted last time so are literally trying to appease to people who voted the idiot Boris Johnson in to office on the promise that Brexit was “oven ready” 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yet they’ll probably get in based on “anything but Tories” 🤷🏼‍♂️

@redvers That's why they need to be constantly reminded of their responsibilities to protect people. For sure.
@velobetty definitely. But it will be like pissing in the wind for the difference it will make. Rather than vote red or blue, depending on who panders to you at any given election, people should be looking at the policies and words and actions and actually vote for who they really want in charge. Need PR rather than FPTP and not that bastardised version they got away with balloting for when the LD were in coalition…
