I complained in the past that manipulating PDF documents on #Linux sucks. The default tools are basic viewers, but lack any modification capability, so I decided to look into tools that help you actually work with PDF documents.

Here are the best PDF tools for #Linux, to view, edit, merge, split, create, annotate, do OCR and more! Most are #OpenSource, but there are some gaps that commercial, proprietary solutions can fill as well:

@thelinuxEXP Thanks for this video, this is very informative!
@thelinuxEXP I disagree! You are right, there is no one mega powered PDF editor with all features. But if you search the repository of your distribution you will find a lot of PDF tools, so you can do nearly everything you need. If you are happy with closed source, pay for it! Your video is just a commercial for KasmVNC, nothing else.
@vegos_f06 Wow the worst take I’ve ever read. You really are going to argue that the video doesn’t showcase any useful software, that people all already know about? How do you think people find out about these PDF tools in their repos? Blocked.

@thelinuxEXP all great tips, and useful

For Okular it does take a minute of searching to sort it out if you don't use FF https://bbbhltz.codeberg.page/2022/10/i-have-a-pinetime/#digitally-sign-a-document-in-okular and this works super good if you like working from the cli https://www.openpdfsign.org/

I have a PineTime

...and learned a thing or two

@thelinuxEXP i like qpdf the best, but its a command line tool which i can understand if not many ppl r so crazy about it. Its like going to the dos command line & editing text with edlin or copycon. Personally i think we shd send all windows bigots 2 write a game like pong or pac-man & tell them they are only allowed to use edlin or copycon
@thelinuxEXP Always good to learn about new tools
@thelinuxEXP Ayeee, glad to see you over mastodon I just moved over here.
@thelinuxEXP Not open source, but I just use www.ilovepdf.com/ for everything.

@thelinuxEXP I hate that pdfs are basically no different from word docs anymore. They originally came around to not be modifiable....

@10leej @thelinuxEXP

For twenty plus years now, when someone sends me a contact to sign as a PDF, if I'm interested, i read it, and considering my signature will be the first if I agree, i consider it a proposal, which I modify accordingly, sign, and send back.

It's amazing that almost no one takes the time to read those contracts - they just countersign and send me back the copy with their signatures.

Sometimes, shit hits the fan! And when it does they start with the threatening or intimidating language, saying "you signed the contract", to which i respond, "Yes I did asshole - did you read it?"

#tallship #handshakes #contracts #liars and #cheats - # comeuppance #Brundlefly

do you have an article somewhere? i don't really like to watch videos
@fluffy Nah, I’m a YouTuber, I make videos first, and when I have time, I add an article ;)

@thelinuxEXP great video!

What about #scribus to edit large PDF files? I use it all the time!

And #draw in #libreoffice can concatenate different lines in a single paragraph.

Finally, #xournal++ works not only in #linux but also #android and #windows . So sharing documents between the 3 platforms is possible. I like it, even if I admit it is old as my grandfather and add its own layer file along the PDF.... So don't delete the PDF!

Anyway, GREAT VIDEO.
