‘Tied’ visas are putting migrant domestic workers at risk of abuse

Migrants who come to the UK on Overseas Domestic Worker visas are effectively "tied" to their employer, leaving them with few options

The Big Issue
It makes a vital point towards the end: the UK has a crisis in NHS and social care recruitment, and many who arrive as domestic workers are keen to move into care work. Instead of facilitating this, the system obstructs them from as there is no general right to extend their visa.
We'll be talking more about this and the campaign to #restorerights at this evening's event organised by Kalayaan and the Voice of Domestic Workers, with workers, journalist Evie Breese, Migration and Protection Expert and Activist @ZoeJardiniere , Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy and me, plus Unite's Diana Holland as chair https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/11-years-of-the-restrictive-odw-visa-why-workers-need-to-have-their-right-tickets-597711109017?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=escb
