My hot take: It’s actually good to normalize indicting people who really seem to have committed crimes and who are likely to continue doing so.
@jpanzer who, indeed, have livetweeted their way through many of them
@jpanzer Grant was arrested for speeding while he was President. I think that's awesome.
@aglisson @jpanzer Luckily for Grant, drunk driving wasn't a crime at the time.
@obscurestar @jpanzer Confederates make me want to drink as well!

@aglisson @jpanzer They make me want to Sherman but I'm not sure j Panzer would approve.

I would like to write something wittier but it's 6AM. :(

@aglisson Please tell the NYT this, they seem to be clutching their pearls so tightly right now and maybe this will help them relax a bit

@jpanzer IMO the NYT's biggest problem (and it has many) is the giant stick being clenched tightly by their butthole.

It's the pearl clutching. The tone policing. The feints toward bogus "objectivity". Headlines and leading paragraphs that distort information because accuracy would be "unseemly".

It's the idea that they are THEE NYT and they will decide for you what is and isn't in the bounds of propriety and how we can talk about news, thank you very much.

@jpanzer "All the news that's FIT to print" is a terrible ethos for a news org. It underscores the idea that they should be your gatekeeper to the world.

A better news ethos is "We're going to do our best to give you the most accurate understanding of what's happening today that we can." Not an easy task, but one much more worthy of effort than "We're going to tell you how to think about the news."

@jpanzer @mmasnick Yeah, but it’s telling that it’s Trump paying off a sex partner and not GW Bush for war crimes.
@Voline @jpanzer @mmasnick war crimes have always been extremely difficult to bring and prosecute, trump is at a lower level of potential criminality. Also the classic example is Al Capone being done for tax evasion. Break enough laws and one of them will get you eventually.
@Voline Bingo, but I'll still take it over *crickets*.
@Voline @mmasnick it’s usually easier to start with the simple stuff; maybe we should practice, work out these indictment muscles a bit, build up some strength…
@jpanzer The judge should probably deny bail; he seems like a flight risk. I mean, he owns *a private jet*.
