@abhibeckert @thomasfuchs Let’s politely disagree then. 😉
The creator of Mastodon was 100% against them at first. With a lot of input, he has changed/softened his stance. Quote posts have many pros AND many cons. I respect him for now wanting to do it right.
Many people are still against them. Many are for them. I think it’s very responsible to take a very measured approach.
@leoncowle @thomasfuchs I just don’t see “100% against” and “under consideration” as a meaningful change. It has obviously already been under consideration for a very long time, probably almost as long as Mastodon has existed.
The fact it has now been written down on a list somewhere isn’t progress.
Also I don’t see it as a feature that needs much planning - it’s just a simple metadata flag that you either allow on posts or you don’t allow it.
@abhibeckert @thomasfuchs Let's not argue. 🙂
I'm with you that I hope we get it soon. I'm in the I-miss-it camp, even though I do appreciate there was rampant abuse, misuse and bullying that went along with it on Twitter.
Finally, do yourself a favor and listen to this week's Decoder podcast episode, where Nilay Patel (Editor of The Verge) interviewed Eugen Rochko (Mastodon’s Benevolent Dictator for Life 😂). I can tell he's a very measured person, with only the very best for Mastodon at heart.
@leoncowle @thomasfuchs Yep. :) I never miss a Decoder episode though I haven’t caught this one yet (busy week).
And to be clear, I love Mastodon. Which is why I want it to be better.
