It's 1987. The Metropolitan Police are waging an intimidation campaign against London's LBTQ+ community.

Wearing rubber gloves to "protect from AIDS" they raid the Royal Vauxhall Tavern

"Well well," says Lily Savage (Paul O'Grady) from the stage as the police pile into the venue. "It looks like we’ve got help with the washing up" /1

@garius we need something like that to protect the trans community.

It seems the negative Nancy's always want to persecute a section of society. When they couldn't persecute the poor they persecuted black people. When they couldn't do that the persecuted gay people. Now they can't do that, they're persecuting trans people.

Let people be people. Let them be happy living the life they live.

@britishtechguru Interestingly, that last sentence is ALMOST EXACTLY what O'Grady himself used to say whenever asked about trans rights and identity.

He was a legit gem of a person.

@garius All the really interesting people seem to have left us. Freddie Mercury, Kenny Everett, Lily Savage. I don't know about Dame Edna nor Hinge & Bracket.
