Haha, listen. I was a HUGE advocate for Mastodon. I wanted nothing more than for this place to happen
But come on, it hasn’t. It’s genuinely amazing that people have found nice communities etc on here, I’m jealous!
But no, it hasn’t happened. And unfortunately, the setup of Mastodon (servers etc) likely means it can’t really ever go big.
I hope one day it does and you can all rub it in my face!!!
@mikerose I mean, it will never be a Twitter replacement, or a large bursting social network like Facebook or anything else, but that is a good thing.
So far I’m getting great engagement here for the comparably little followers I have.
This place is alive and I think the reason you’re not seeing this is because you’re on mastodon.social that has been riddled with problems since forever now
@mikerose Just out of interest, where did you end up going instead?
Things really clicked for me here quite a while ago, so I never really had much incentive to check out Cohost and such, although I gather lots of gamedev people went there.
@mikerose I've also kinda lost hope that Mastodon can "go big", but I'm still holding out hope that Mozilla or Tumblr or someone else can make a Fediverse platform that does, and then all the existing Mastodon userbase can just communicate directly with them with no hassle and form a viable alternative to the shithole Musk has decided to turn Twitter into
Hoping so so so much Mozilla follows through on this and comes up with a hit https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/mozilla-launch-fediverse-instance-social-media-alternative/
@mikerose It’s definitely not doing the same numbers, but I like the atmosphere and feel more.
Hope to see more stuff from you here, Mike! :)
