How’s this for an idea that should not be controversial: Ban assault rifles, not books.
@StevenBeschloss @GoodVibes7472 in any other country it wouldn’t be controversial
@StevenBeschloss An excellent idea but completely unrealistic in the US where a 60% vote is required in the ludicrously undemocratic Senate. The US needs to eliminate minority rule and make the Senate more fairly represent the people so that the majority opinion prevails. Until that is done the slaughter of children will continue.
@bcscrambler @StevenBeschloss
Better yet scare them to death with #directdemocracy. The only reason a republican democracy was established was because a true democracy wasn't possible in the 1700s. It is now with technology. We vote on all major legislation. Of the people, by the people, for the people.

@ZhiZhu @StevenBeschloss ...you have no idea how sad this makes me.

Yet here we are.

@StevenBeschloss the problem with that is they don't want people educated, the want people to fear schools so everyone can be Republican.
@StevenBeschloss The Ammosexuals won’t allow it.
@StevenBeschloss Evidently, republicans find books more dangerous than assault rifles.
@StevenBeschloss You run into a problem of definition and provable cause and effect, which is then political and likely to fail. Gun control is urgently necessary, but must be clear, consistent, rational, and fact-based. I assure you that "ban assault rifles" is certain to fail, for reasons I don't have room to lay out here. These goals are achievable, but must be prosecuted very differently than this.
@StevenBeschloss I'm not so sure about outright banning assault rifles, especially when you consider how nebulous that term can be. But more rigorous background checks and requiring a license to own one might be a good step.

@StevenBeschloss Will add it to the list of other ideas which should not be controversial:
—Do not destroy the earth’s ecosystem.
—If we can provide basic life needs for all, like food, shelter and healthcare, we should definitely do it.
—Build, rather than destroy, public education.
—If how someone dresses makes you uncomfortable, calm the fuck down.
—Make democracy stronger, not weaker.

And yet (as someone else already said on this thread) here we are.

How do we get from here to where we need to be? There is no simple answer, but I do know we will need to dig in for the long haul, stocked with a lot of slow-burn determination.

@StevenBeschloss adding to the long list of things #AI will do fos us:

Set a #assaultweaponsban

Create a #government that is "better"

Send #thoughtsandprayers automatically

#pray more efficiently so god can do things more effectively...Such as but not limited to: jailing Trump already, making several #quarts of oil from #putin, catching all the #druglords etc, #takingovertheworld...
