hi @bryankam

Ok, I've made some revisions and will continue to iterate this (rough) piece, and have mustered the courage to make a post ( https://anexerciseinmental.com/a-sketch-of-an-evolutionary-origin-for-depression/ ), which is easier to update on the fly

This was written with you and interintellect in mind, to help frame a scope. Where I refer to you I do so legitimately, but I am happy to remove that introduction if preferred, and I know you may never read or respond, which is fine! But thanks for the opportunity to float this all the same

a sketch of an evolutionary origin for depression

active draft. a technical sketch. general, before special —alignment, before distraction intro Hello Bryan, So—I'm not done on the dependent origination meta analysis—though similarities with some of the methods of this project are clear (which is very cool, thank you). Dependent origination is an esoteric term which I

@causalmechanics Thanks for writing this and well done! I'm looking forward to taking a look this afternoon, London time 😊
@causalmechanics @bryankam Causal, I saw your post and wanted to alert you to an analysis of depression which may be compatible or not with yours. I gave this presentation, "Expecting What We Don't Wish: The Source of Anger, Hate, Relief and Depression" https://www.math4wisdom.com/wiki/Research/20170907ExpectingWhatWeDontWish This is an analysis of the emotional life in terms of expectations. Depression is a trap where we can't be happy because we expect the opposite. A subsequent presentation provides a mathematical modeling in terms of Moebius transformations of the boundary between self and world https://www.math4wisdom.com/wiki/Research/20230311AGeometryOfMoods I am curious what you think and I could propose an evolutionary context where resources are used to model what we know but also what we don't know.

@AndriusKulikauskas @bryankam

hi Andrius, nice to contact, and i hope all's well

with something as complex and drawn out as depression, i have no doubt that we're all looking at and describing the same mechanisms, at different tiers of impact, shaped by the lens of our own personal experiences

i do have some questions on mathematics i'd love to float, but that might not be bryan's cup of tea!

i'll contact on a separate thread

cheers

@causalmechanics @bryankam Causal, good to connect! I don't know if I will be able to help with your questions, but I'm interested to learn more.
