Last night, the gates of my hometown's city hall were set on fire

If you're wondering what is going on in #France, this is about a lot more than pension reform

The pension reform is unjust in & of itself (women & poor people will be the ones most impacted). But the rage French people are expressing right now is about Macron's hatred for democracy. Since his reelection just one year ago, he has bypassed parliament 11 times, more than all govs in the previous 20 years put together

UPDATE below

A friend closely involved in the (peaceful) demonstrations said the gate of the city hall was set on fire by the far-right. They are coming out in full force, incl. to attack peaceful protestors

This the largest movement we've seen in a generation--larger than 2006 when I was in high school. Ppl are saying it's on par with 1995 and still people are angrier

Police repression is ruthless: a protestor lost a finger, 100s have been injured, 100s indiscriminately arrested (incl. tourist bystanders)
