My wild and off-the-wall idea for a vegan restaurant is a restaurant that serves a wide variety of interesting and well-designed vegan dishes that don’t make the slightest attempt to look or taste like meat
I mean I’m Absolutely Not A Vegan but (being both cheese-intolerant and married to a vegetarian) I like plenty of vegan food. And I also feel for my wife, a lifelong vegetarian, who has to navigate a world in which many restaurants’ “vegetarian” options now consist entirely of fake meat
In a similar way, it’s great that so many nonalcoholic beers and spirits and what-have-you are now available, but it has rather killed off the market for any more *interesting* alcohol-free drinks. Feel like a lightly sparkling kombucha? Fuck you, here’s a Peroni Zero
@considermycatjohn the vegetarian restaurant we used to go to in Norwich was always a wonderful place to go with a wide variety of really interesting meals. This new trend in meat substitutes is awful. Great for some people, I’m sure, but I’ve always liked vegetarian as a cuisine in itself.
@considermycatjohn There used to be a really good one answering that description on the edge of the city centre here which I went to relatively regularly which didn't survive the lockdowns.
