Kid sheepishly admitted that he "kinda" likes math class--comparing it to being a bit like an open-world video game. As opposed to biology where he feels he's doing nothing but memorizing names of stuff. That's about as close as I've gotten as far as any interest in math/CS stuff though.

@dabeaz Chemistry was the first science class that didn't bore me, for that exact reason. Physics is good, too. Then engineering opens up the world.

Biology gets better once you start to get into biochemistry, endocrinology, biomechanics... all college level, though.

@btskinn I tried to defend biology by saying there's a lot of interesting stuff that's not memorization (maybe even involving math). But yeah, at the intro level, I understand the memorization complaint--it turned me off too.
