Wow, this is a really icky pattern from Yelp. Get a text message saying I have to confirm my reservation but the link takes me to a page that requires me to download the app.

They seem to be aware that this comes across as scummy so they address the complaint with an unconvincing "Trust us, this is better for you. You'll be able to confirm in the future with one click! We'll just gloss over the fact that you could also confirm here with one click."

@simonwistow funny enough, if you reply to the text message with "CONFIRM" it does the right thing
@simonwistow How to get me to choose another restaurant, or maybe just call to reserve a table 🙄
@kudra I don’t blame the restaurant to be honest. If they’re already paying Yelp for review laundering (which is sadly a must for small to medium size restaurants) then it’s probably worth paying them for reservations rather than paying more for OpenTable or Tock or whatever. Tock is at fault here.
