If you have twenty minutes, make the time to watch this incredible video from Mark Rober about Zipline.
When I worked at Google Ventures, one of the best parts of the job was spending time with founders as they built their businesses; I remember meeting with Keller Rinaudo, Zipline's founder and CEO, more than a year before their first delivery in Rwanda.
Later, I remember hosting Zipline in a meeting with a F500 CEO client who wanted to explore partnering with them. Something Keller said in that meeting has stuck with me ever since.
Watching this video brought it back. He talked about the Zipline delivery centers, and the fences surrounding the launch / landing zones. And how most days, there were kids who'd hang out by the fence to watch the drones take off and land.
“What will the future they create look like, when things like life-saving blood from the sky were just a normal part of their childhood?”
I think about that a lot. And it makes me hopeful.
@rklau wow thank you for sharing.
Best part is when my 11 yr old comes in and within 5 seconds of hearing the video says “Is that Mark Rober?”

@arainert @dan @rklau He's pretty famous for the Glitterbomb anti-theft smart device … a YouTube hit
But my big respect for him came when his last iteration led down the path of uncovering some networks of international scammers
This included a collab with another YouTuber who knows how to reverse-spy on the Indian call centres that create 90% of our automated scam calls in western countries — and has videos where he calls the scam victims and tries to save them
Not only did I learn how he found their exact address, but I learned how the business model thrives on a 0.00.00.01% hit rate
This is why you should never be particularly proud of spotting and hanging up on them — they literally need you to do that, since they haven't got time and need to find an easy target like a kind old grandma instead — but you might be helping a victim indirectly, if you can keep them talking for an hour
