So its time to start sharing some #allotment spam on here. After being on the waiting list since before lockdown started we got a message to say that there was a plot available to us and at the start of February 2023 took over this 10 perch area of #Morganstown allotments. As you'd expect for a vacated plot, it hadn't been loved and cared for recently so there are quite a few brambles and the grass has overgrown onto the beds but it does come with rhubarb, some fruit bushes and a poly tunnel.
@IanCarpentry my guess is your rhubarb and fruit bushes will pay for your rent. It's a win from there!
@IanCarpentry you'll knock it into shape in no time! I finally got a neglected plot last june - took me 8 weeks to dig up/over 8 months of weeds. You have plenty of time to get in cleared & planted for this year. Good luck!
@IanCarpentry I used to be a fan of weed blanket on the #allotment. It's great when it is new, but if you just leave it then it has a tendency to fill your plot with waste plastic after a few years and messy to get rid of. I'm now of the mind that this is really not environmentally friendly. I'm gradually removing mine.
@DavidMorris @IanCarpentry same here, we now use woodchip from a landscape gardener for pathways, and green manure for dormant beds. Otherwise Hoe when ever we visit the plot.
