The ever-present danger of global variables.
@tazz602 That's a *HELL* of a notification!
@kandersonus @tazz602 *hell* is exactly what I would have named this global variable in #lisp
@tazz602 Computer should have asked: "Define 'too hot'."
Why would it care what 'hot' means? 🤷
@frank fair point, well made.
@frank
Because any temperature over 'hot' would be 'too hot'.
@natejung No. There's a whole range of hot. Hot, more hot and less hot. Hothothot! 🥵👈
@tazz602 This meme makes me snicker every time.

@tazz602 #AltText4You

A six-panel #StarTrek comic.

1. An external shot of a shuttlecraft, near a sun.

2. Inside the shuttlecraft, Dr. Crusher says: "Computer, notify me if external temperature gets too hot."

3. The computer beeps and says: "Please define 'hot.'"

4. Dr. Crusher responds: "Let's say, 1.9 million Kelvins."

5. Later, on the Enterprise, Picard orders his usual at the replicator: "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot." The computer beeps in acknowledgment.

6. The entire room is suddenly on fire, and Picard's exposed skeleton is visible.

@tazz602 @Cassandra Picture 6 is actually (mirrored) Sarah Connor in her nightmare in Terminator 2, isn't it?
@sverik Could be. I think she was holding on to a fence, which looks consistent with what the skeleton is doing.
@Cassandra @sverik I think that’s Sarah Connor’s nightmare as well.
@sverik @Cassandra
I didn't create it so I honestly don't know. Just shared it because it was funny.
@tazz602 @Cassandra Agreed. I was just overwhelmed with memories and surprised that I recognised it. It definitely left an impact when I saw it some 20 years ago.
@tazz602 actually lol, i have a customer on the phone and i'm trying to suppress the giggles

@tazz602 Someone has to be punished for this joke
@tazz602 That supports my theory that Star Trek started as a mental experiment of a security researcher, who tried to immagine how things could go wrong.
@tazz602 Serious reply ... yes, 100% for sure .... unless you have some nice hierarchical infrastructure to organize them. Then sharing info between modules can become much more flexible and well defined ... compared to organically growing weird, brittle, and convoluted function api's and data flow inside your code as you go.

@tazz602 this should be in textbooks
@tazz602
I laughed harder than I probably should have!
