My little @PinkerStraws turns 13 today! Time really does fly, but she’s growing up to be smart, confident, and kind; we’re so proud of her, and can’t wait to see what havoc she’ll wreak on the world 😎 (Note the “Peace was never an option” goose game badge on her school blazer!)
Yes, she was born on Pi Day, so here is my favorite fact about pi: even if you know π to only the first 15 decimal places, you could calculate the circumference of the Earth and be off by less than 1/30,000th the width of a human hair.
@twostraws whereas if you only know tau to the first 15 decimal places you'd be off by less than 1/15,000th the width of a human hair.
@twostraws To split that hair, this is only on the assumption that the earth was a perfect sphere! 😉
@twostraws 3,1415926535897932385 is etched in my mind. It’s been sitting there for 20 years solid. I once attempted to extend that to 50 decimals which was nothing but a temporary success story: my memory erased it after a week (I suppose it wasn’t important enough to retain). For whatever reason, it’s much harder to remember the list of grocery-shopping list items compared to random non-critical number sequences 🤔😊
@twostraws my favorite pi fact is that 3.14 looks a lot like PI.E when viewed in a mirror.
