“The cold and unfeeling machinations of fate have once more thrown my plans into disarray”
– mysterious
– implies some kind of impending doom
– sounds like the start of a villainous monologue

@XanIndigo Absolutely. But to take grandiloquence to the vainglorious pinnacle, have your characters curse that way. There is nothing that beats a well written insult to confuse and destroy your opponent. It's something that has fallen out of vogue in the last couple centuries, but it deserves a revival.
