The hardest thing about being an autodidact is the impostor syndrome. There's a wealth of information out there, and sometimes I feel paralyzed by all the massive traditions and ideas. How do I know for sure I read enough to have a definite answer on this or that subject ? What am I missing? The only way I found is to dare and have an incomplete opinion, but leave it always open to be challenged. That balance is tricky to maintain.

@joekd1 I don't exactly have an academic degree in folklore studies either.

I say, go ahead and welcome the challenges. Even the writings of well-established academics are regularly challenged, which is the point of peer review, so the same should be true of everyone else.

As long as you acknowledge that you have still lots to learn - like every other human being out there - you should be good.

@juergen_hubert That's some great advice, thanks!
I feel this way especially when the subject is challenging. You're right, embracing the challenges is part of the learning process that everyone must go through.
