Blimey Bloody Cowards: The #BBC won’t air Sir David Attenborough’s latest triumph capturing the ‘astonishing’ natural wonder of the British Isles on the telly because the scenes of destruction might hurt the feelings of Conservatives. #WildIsles https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/mar/10/david-attenborough-bbc-wild-isles-episode-rightwing-backlash-fears
BBC will not broadcast Attenborough episode over fear of ‘rightwing backlash’

Exclusive: Decision to make episode about natural destruction available only on iPlayer angers programme-makers

The Guardian
@profcarroll so much for the idea of conservatives as the champions of free speech ...
@profcarroll
I'm sure backing down will fix everything and cause the tories to leave BBC alone.
@profcarroll So conservatives are being perceived as snowflakes?
@profcarroll Gary Lineker is one thing (and I admire his support for the less fortunate), but when people fear that the Tories will come from them over a SDA documentary? Country truly fucked.
@profcarroll Well it's only ok to commit atrocities as long as folks aren't aware of said attrocities. How dare anyone attempt to actually SHOW we're destroying the world.
@profcarroll I’m saddened by this. I thought BBC was the last of the honest networks.
@profcarroll They need to reverse that. It's outrageous.

@profcarroll The BBC response looks like facile hair-splitting over whether the programme is even part of the series, too much like PFI arguments over the X-ray department at the local hospital. It's not automatically neo-Nazi thinking, though I see clear echoes. But I wonder how much of my reaction is down to a chance reminder, maybe an account of the reaction in Germany to the 1930 movie "All Quiet on the Western Front".

In nature, nothing new...

@profcarroll @ccferrie Not a good day for the Beeb, but that particular story seems to be oveblown
BBC accused of bowing to ‘dinosaurian ways’ after pulling episode of new David Attenborough series

Broadcaster says episode focusing on destruction of nature risks ‘right-wing backlash’ and will run on iPlayer only

The Irish Times
@profcarroll I think their understanding of the term “impartiality” is incorrect, at best.
@profcarroll That must finally be that cancel culture they accuse everbody else of.
@profcarroll They're not cowards. They're Tories. Doing exactly the job they were placed there to do. (Okay, some of them may be cowards too.)

@profcarroll
Hiding truth from power?

Corruption of purpose.
