This is gonna be a thread documenting the replacement of the foundation wall of our house. I’m not doing it myself obviously but I think it’s a really interesting process. Here they’ve added temporary bracing down the length of the wall, with plastic sheeting to protect the rest of the basement. You can see how badly the wall is bowing in, which is why we’re replacing it. On Monday they’re gonna start excavating on the outside of the house
Day one of excavation: They’ve removed about half the wall, digging the trench down as they go.
Day 2 of excavation, entirely done removing the wall, they’ve dug about 2 feet down below the level of the basement floor
Today the trench was widened a bit and the dirt on the floor was compacted so the new wall can be built on top. Luckily for our bank accounts an existing unused entry point to the sewer was located and a drainage system is being started that will drain excess water from outside the wall
Here’s a fun twist: remember that sewer pipe?when the inspector came today to check the soil compactation they noticed a very old crack in it that’s been slowly leaking sewage for what they think was a long time, so now we’re gonna fix that
@sam Ugh good luck with all of this! We had some pipe issues last year that turned into major foundation repairs. Looks like yours is going in the opposite direction lol
