When joined, I was worried about what's appropriate to share here. But, I've come to the conclusion that it should be whatever I genuinely feel like sharing, as long as it's not unkind, hateful, inconsiderate, or polarizing.
I may make mistakes along the way, but I like to think we'll treat each other with grace for taking the risk of being vulnerable.
@BobWilliams That's the conclusion I came to as well, with the additional point that you can also share NSFW content, or potentially triggering/upsetting content, as long as you use the CW feature to offer people the opportunity to consent to viewing your post.
Other than that.. as long as you're contributing something and not hating or bashing individuals or groups of people, it seems like almost anything is fair game.
@BobWilliams yes, absolutely! That's the difference between Mastodon and Twitter (that's how social media used to be).
On Twitter I barely had any engagement anymore. There's too much tribalism and the algorithm wants people to stay focused on highly specific topics that your followers will engage with.
If you dare talk about a variety of interests that don't engage a part of your followers, the algorithm won't even show your content to anyone. What an absurd "social" network model.
Also keep in mind that the filtering functionality here is really good. It can effectively be set up to CW posts that aren’t CWd by the author.
