@AlanGrassia the problem with SCSI: just because the plugs fit does not mean it will work. There were too many variants.

That and loose connectors could corrupt your data.

@mike805 During the early part of my IT career, I was a help desk staffer who supported the IIci all the way up to the Mac Pro (1,1). We called it SCSI voodoo because you had to remember which models and peripherals needed active vs passive termination.

Back then I was pretty good with SCSI. Now I had to look up which SCSI ID the boot was assigned to.
