I understand that what is going on in Lake Arrowhead, CA is not normal for them. They did not expect to be buried under 9 feet of snow. I sincerely hope that they receive the help they need. I also hope that after this crisis is over, the residents there and everywhere deeply understand that we are in uncertain times and weather is doing unprecedented things now. The old norms can no longer be depended on.
This, more than ever, clearly is an example of how imperative it is to be prepared. When your life and those of your family are dependent on specific medications, baby formula, and other necessities of life, being prepared is not a mutual aid situation. It is personal. When every person in a community is going through the same crisis, and are dealing with their own needs, it is critical to have thought ahead to what you and your family are going to need.
Pay attention to the weather forecasts and predictions, take seriously the worst case scenarios, prepare for the most extreme situations that could arise. Stock up medications, be absolutely certain you have enough necessities on hand to get through anything and then longer. Then, if you have more than you need, you are able to share. The best kind of mutual aid is assisting and encouraging others ahead of time to be more prepared for themselves.
