Enough.

@adtothebone I can attest this works. This principle (enough) has enabled me to become FIRE at 50, while living a normal life.

I am honestly confused why ppl would want to earn a million a year.

The poor gave their labor and their lives."

@adtothebone source? Makes me curious about this book.
@scott @adtothebone I think the quotation is from John C. Bogle's book, Enough. Not sure about the book doing the quoting, though.
Rocco wants more.avi

From the movie "Key Largo" E. G. Robinson and Bogie square off about wanting more.

@adtothebone "Enough" is the economic Goldilocks zone.
@adtothebone image description: highlighted book passage reads…
At a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island, Kurt Vonnegut informs his pal, Joseph Heller, that their host, a hedge fund manager, had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his wildly popular novel Catch-22 over its whole history.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have … enough.”
@adtothebone to say that this resonates with me doesn’t give it enough credit, I feel it to my core. It sent tingles down my spine.
@adtothebone What book is this passage in, please?
@adtothebone If only Vanguard Funds had stayed as great as the thing that Bogle created...
@adtothebone I felt this way listening to union talks about how a pay offer hadn't benefited the over $100k bracket very much and was strongly favoring the below $100k bracket. I thought "good!" I'm in the first bracket, I feel happy to get any increase and am pleased it is mostly skewed towards the lower bracket because I'm already on enough and they need it more.
@adtothebone This is something I've wondered about ever since I first noticed the rise of the billionaires a few years ago. At what point do you have enough stuff? You can only physically occupy space in one location, so what good does it do you to have an obscene number of houses - yachts - private jets? I can understand being able to upgrade your travel etc., but otherwise how does it really improve your life above simply having enough money to fulfil your needs?

@isotope239 @adtothebone

Something crossed my mind a few days ago.

I would live to know how many very wealthy have "bug out" plans/residences in place already, in the event everything goes to hell.

@adtothebone @StillIRise1963 Enough has been my goal for a few years now and my life is better for it (even the times when I’m not meeting it).
@adtothebone
It also says a lot about the kind of person Kurt Vonnegut was too.
@adtothebone I love Heller and Vonnegut - such great authors!

@adtothebone
I was always if the opinion that the wealthy do not have a goal of earning X amount of money.

Their goal is to earn *more*

Which by definition is a goal that can never be reached.

@adtothebone If you know enough is enough, you'll always have enough
