What is wrong with The New York Times? Instead of reporting on what proposed radical measures in Florida represent for civil liberties, education and the state’s residents, this long-delayed report focuses on… what it means for #DeSantis’s presidential campaign.

We need better national reporting in the public interest. Our major outlets are locked in partisan framing and fixated on predicting election outcomes.

In Florida Legislative Session, a Chance for DeSantis to Check Off His Wish List

Republican lawmakers have indicated the session will be guided by Gov. Ron DeSantis’s priorities, including a proposal that would expand gun rights.

@melaniesill They support this nightmare. They are the stealth #Fox.
It Is Journalism’s Sacred Duty To Endanger The Lives Of As Many Trans People As Possible

The task of reporting is not a simple one. Each and every day, reporters and editors at publications like The Onion make difficult decisions about which issues should receive attention, knowing that our coverage will influence not only how people think, but also how they act. This responsibility is at the core of an…

“Good journalism is about finding those stories, even when they don’t exist. It’s about asking the tough questions and ignoring the answers you don’t like, then offering misleading evidence in service of preordained editorial conclusions. In our case, endangering trans people is the lodestar that shapes our coverage.” Wow.🔥
@melaniesill They're like that on everything. I stuck with them for years because I always heard that they were "middle of the road" and I bought into the worry about "getting stuck in an echo chamber". I forget what it was over, but I finally cancelled my subscription and I'm glad I did.
@melaniesill NYTimes has gone rogue. Or at least enough individuals there have.
@melaniesill the times has been doing this shit since at least 2016.
@melaniesill Yeah about that “landslide victory” the Times gushes about: https://www.propublica.org/article/ron-desantis-florida-redistricting-map-scheme
How Ron DeSantis Blew Up Black-Held Congressional Districts and May Have Broken Florida Law

DeSantis’ move, secretly aided by GOP-linked national operatives, came over the objections of the Republican-controlled state legislature.

@melaniesill Reporting on elections as horseraces instead of analyzing and contrasting policies was much easier and turned politics into entertainment. Sadly, Trump's continuous campaigning seems to have helped make that the default way to look at all american political reporting.
@jonathanpeterson @melaniesill This. They don’t know how to report on the issues—especially complex issues that require a degree of expertise to explain to a general audience—so they shoehorn everything into their templates for celebrities and horse races.
@melaniesill yeah, moving my subscription to the west coast. LA TImes. Cant stand to watch the NYTimes embrace false equivalence and whataboutism like this.

Big Business & Big Media have given up on Democracy.

Fascism is more profitable & takes less work.

Who needs reporters when the Fascists hand out press releases for free?

@melaniesill the fixation on being predictive is where the rot begins

Journalists mistakenly think that’s how they make their work relevant
