#Linux🐧
@nixCraft come on, every household has a few Linux instances, like in the internet routers, smart TV, phones, whatnot.
@nixCraft I mean, NYSE is far away and probably not real. But I can touch Linux systems with my bare hands. If you look close enough, you may even see tiny torvalds running around carrying bits of data.
@nixCraft if linux doesn’t power your infrastructure, you are doing it wrong
@nixCraft
And still fails to load decent drivers for graphic cards, webcams, etc

@nixCraft

5) omg look at the cute penguin!

@nixCraft 0 - Linux is just a kernel. GNU/Linux is the operating system.
@nixCraft I was going to comment with “I wonder how long before we get a ‘well actuuuaaaaally linux is only the kernel’ comment, but seems I’m already too late. *eyeroll emoji*
@nixCraft Image description:
4 Facts about Linux.
(1) The operating system is free.
(2) Nearly 12,000 developers from more than 1,200 companies have contributed to the Linux kernel since tracking began 10 years ago.
(3) Linux runs on just about any hardware from mobile phones to supercomputers.
(4) Linux powers the New York
Stock Exchange, NASA, and the Large Hadron Collider among many other things.
@GreenSkyOverMe @nixCraft
Linux runs on my RaspberryPi - with Firefox featuring Mastodon (plus Twitter and some more tabs) - quick and reliable
@nixCraft Thought experiment: What would our world look/work like without Linus Torvalds being born? Would our mobile phones run BSD?
Add point #5: Linux is oxygen supplemented with nitrous oxide.
@nixCraft sure but Linux is only successful in practice. In theory it could *never* work.
