Thanks to whoever it was who recommended "Ron Carter: Finding the Right Notes." It definitely was an old birdsite pal, and the recommendation may even have been over there - it was right around the time of that first big migration. I found it airing at a different time, recorded it, and finally watched just now: Enjoyable, informative, moving - and basses still freak me out, with their lack of frets.
