1. Big Journalism is shocked, shocked to discover that the Murdoch family's Fox "News" is a completely partisan propaganda outlet, spewing lies and injecting poison into our civic bloodstream.

2. Big Journalism has known this for many years. The sudden surprise is a pretense that only highlights the way the craft has treated -- will continue to treat -- Fox as if it had a shred of legitimacy.

3. Big Journalism will be shocked, shocked the next time a court case reveals what was already known.

@dangillmor How needlessly cynical, Dan. There's a difference between knowing something and having the ability to publish detailed and specific information based on legal proceedings, particularly when those proceedings stand a pretty good chance of disrupting that model.
@daveleeFT There has been ample evidence of this for a long time, ignored or downplayed by almost everyone in the traditional press. (Brian Stelter, late of CNN, was one of the rare exceptions, as was Margaret Sullivan at the WashPost.) The Dominion case has unveiled specific sleaze, and I hope it costs Murdoch and shareholders a bundle, yes, but enough to make a rancid company less so?

@dangillmor @daveleeFT I think the bigger shock is the reveal that, via the legal discovery process, it was shown they put it into writing, in an email.

It would be like if Sam Bankman-Fried had an email revealed during his discovery where he wrote "It's Enroning Time!"

@daveleeFT were you not paid for this post? (cynically)
@dangillmor how are they supposed to know - it’s not like they take their cues from Fox News. Wait.
@Realworldrj @dangillmor I’m wondering, is any media in the US telling about this?, because outside the US, so far, there’s nothing
@dangillmor Big journalism (BJ) hasn’t said anything because of possible loss of revenue AND more importantly, are also owned by over-wealthy twits. Who largely agree w/Murdoch (Mordoc)
@dangillmor Has anyone actually acted surprised? Most of the response I have seen has been, "well, duh."
@dangillmor They always knew Fox News was a farce. Heck, most folks outside US knew that from it's early years. If they say they're shocked - they're lying & they're really shitty liars.
@dangillmor Is Big Media the same thing as Mainstream Media?
@dangillmor It is interesting the level of proof/institutional legitimacy required to move the debate for national journalism. In this case literally a deposition of the owner after an insurrection, the decade’s prior evidence not sufficing.
@dkiesow Here's the thing: The traditional press will continue to treat it as a legitimate news organization in every way that matters -- e.g. permitting its people to be members of elite membership organizations. Sadly, IMO, I doubt the debate has moved much at all.
@dangillmor @dkiesow Of course, because legitimacy is not determined but how factual a network is but by it’s viewership and number of affiliates & ad revenue etc 🤷‍♂️
@dangillmor Call it for what it is: Corporate newsrooms. Newsrooms whose policies and procedures have been captured by their advertisers and corporate boards. And journalists chosen because they have bought in to whatever agenda they are paid to represent.

@dangillmor

But when Fox's own lawyers use the 'No on takes $____name____ srrrsly!' as the.. defense.

Uhmmm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@dangillmor

he will pay the fine gladly and walk. his interests align with the rich keeping a divided population. we have been on this ride and fox is not a news agency but entertainment and lying when not under oath is perfectly legal.

it was them giving trump so much attention that got him elected.
he didn't even want it but wanted to promote his own news show.

the media got us into this shit show and have profited handsomely.

@dangillmor
The best entertainment on Fox News, is Fox's comical attempts to paint itself as being in compliance with the First Ammendment, when its abuse of 1A is what it's best known for.
@dangillmor Big journalism is an advertising outfit that sometimes reports facts and news.
