Florida State Sen. Jason Brodeur has introduced a bill that would require "bloggers" who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis and other legislators to register with the state.

@DarrylCoote It's important to note that the bill, if adopted, "would require bloggers to register with the state and submit periodic reports if they are paid for posts about elected officials," and that DeSantis does not support said bill.

Florida blogger bill falsely tied to DeSantis

CLAIM: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wants bloggers to register with the state or face fines. AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. A bill filed in the Florida Senate would require bloggers to register with the state and submit periodic reports if they are paid for posts about elected officials.

@yongsagisa
I never said the Republican governor did endorse it, but it is understandable how people would tie it to him given his name is often attached to it and given the other policies he promotes.
@DarrylCoote I didn't mean to suggest that *you* had claimed such a thing. I just thought the fact that the bill would apply to *paid* bloggers was an important distinction, and I added the DeSantis bit because the claim that he was endorsing the bill had made the rounds online. I am sorry that I didn't make that clear.
@yongsagisa I'm sensitive. But I know you didn't. I meant to look more into the definitions of the bill because it is all sort of confusing. How many paid bloggers are there?
@DarrylCoote Beats me. Shall we join them and enjoy extravagant lifestyles?
@yongsagisa I was thinking the same thing. Who knew there was money in blogging about Florida politics?
