Happy to see an article cater to many of my extremely specific gripes about the movie industry. The theaters aren't paying for the trained staff and quality equipment they need to show it properly, while the filmmakers are making dark and quiet movies for themselves to watch in their state-of-the-art home theaters. The end result is movies that look and sound bad in most theaters.

@maxkennerly Reading this comment, it just dawned on me that I literally haven't been inside a movie theater since before the pandemic began. Which was not my pattern of attendance prior to the pandemic to be clear.
@maxkennerly I also haven't been to a theater since before the pandemic and after reading the article, I don't know that I will ever go back.
@maxkennerly In their state of the art home theatres, where nobody talks over important lines of dialogue or pulls out their phone they keep at maximum brightness to see if that text was from the babysitter, because the audience is one person.
@maxkennerly Fair. But our local theater (within 4 miles) is one of those elaborate AMC dine and drink in jobs. It is extremely nice, just expensive. But it is fine.
@maxkennerly What’s a theater?
