@MarkHoltom They once set up new library carrels this way where I worked, but it didn't take long for someone on the balcony to point out the problem. (They modified them right away, and I genuinely believe it was cluelessness, possibly from Indian designers.)

@smurthys @eleeper @MarkHoltom Presumably because, in Hinduism, it's a symbol of prosperity and good luck. It's also used in Jainism and Buddhism across East Asia. Japanese maps, for example, use it to designate the location of Buddhist temples.
