I am begging the NY Times editorial page to tell a slightly different story about campus speech, to stop laying the groundwork for authoritarians like DeSantis and Trump.
The NYT decided that this was the perfect week to post another story about how progressives are silencing conservatives, on top of legislation in Florida that censors specific topics, and effectively eliminates tenure.

The latest DeSantis attack on education is part of a broader attack on professional competence

Imposing partisan criteria on what students are taught, how patients are treated, and how the media reports

Can We Still Govern?
The author of the latest NYT piece about how conservatives are being silenced is simply billed as a senior from Princeton. Not disclosed:
President of the College Republicans, active in conservative causes since his early teens, publisher of a conservative newsletter, head of the conservative debate society, writer for Campus Reform, a Koch-funded entity that attacks faculty.
@donmoyn hey at least he's not one of those, you know, Icky Activists.
@donmoyn The NYT opinion page can and will publish whatever gibbering nonsense it wants to, but the more telling thing is how conspicuously silent their news side is on the ongoing efforts by a small group of fabulously wealthy lunatics (including the people funding this guy's future career) to destabilize our country.
@donmoyn I feel like failing to disclose that is a ... failure of basic journalistic ethics?
@donmoyn Universities are not stifling anything, unless conservatives now openly count hate speech and threats of violence as intrinsically conservative. Nope, UCSDs Principles of Community stand tall and righteous. We get to protect our learning environment for all students because learning is our mission. Period.
@donmoyn The #NewYorkTimes seems to hsve decided to emulate #FoxNews. Puzzling.
@donmoyn This makes me miss reading the NY TIMES Pitchbot on Twitter everyday.

@Mea

I was going to tell you that the NYT pitchbot was active on Mastodon, but when I went to my following list to copy its handle, it was gone! I followed 3 other pitchbots the same day and those are still present. I wonder what happened to it.

@donmoyn

@donmoyn Big "We interviewed 4 random people about this thing in the news (and won't mention we met them all at a $5,000 per plate Republican fundraising dinner)" energy.
@donmoyn “conservative and religious life”
‘Nuff said
