*sigh* Time to yet again restart the counter on "number of days since Indiana has not been a national embarrassment."

Indiana Senate passes bill to ban 'bad' books, ease prosecution of teachers, librarians

Senate lawmakers passed a bill Tuesday that would strip teachers and school librarians of a legal defense against charges that they gave harmful books to students.

WFYI
@pollak someone needed to take a stand against cringeworthy books!
@m_scribe Ah, surely nothing will go wrong with letting parents arbitrarily decide what books they consider "inappropriate" and prosecuting teachers and librarians who provide books deemed by parents as such.

@pollak @m_scribe I'm calling my Representatives tomorrow to see if we can stop it in the House.

It is exhausting trying to stay on top of all the utterly daft and unneeded nonsense that our state government gets up to.

@pollak soon librarians are gonna start wearing trench coats and whispering “hey kids I got that fire” and then revealing Richard Scarry’s firehouse book
@pollak Better count hours instead of days.
@pollak I really always feel we’re better off when they’re not in session.
@pollak start with small, achievable intervals, like minutes. Then we can get the counter to double digits, at least once.

“Sen. James Tomes (R-Wadesville) authored the bill in response to concerns from parents who claim that pornography is 🙄 rampant in schools …
When asked by Sen. J.D. Ford (D-Indianapolis) about what school corporations had pornographic material on their shelves🤔, Tomes could not provide specifics🤷‍♂️. Neither Tomes, nor the bill's second author Sen. Blake Doriot (R-Goshen), named specific titles of books that were both found in schools and obscene in nature🤡🤡.”
