More key switches need to be purple, so pretty
@christianselig Are those Zealios?
@roguelazer Outemu ice purples, similar to Zealios though yeah
@christianselig Ooh, extra tactile. ๐Ÿ‘
@christianselig @roguelazer did you lube them or are those switches stock? I love my Zealios but that spring ping is unreal stock!
@RipeFruit @roguelazer I didn't lube them mostly because I don't use this keyboard really anymore haha. I have a Keychron Q8 now that came prelubed sufficiently well, I didn't end up liking the tactile switches as much as I thought I would and the Quefrency case is not the most acoustically pleasing either
@christianselig what keyboard is this?
@akatreyt Quefrency :D
@christianselig was waiting on the sync 3 buuuuut yeah โ€ฆ. Do you recommend?
@akatreyt Honestly it's kinda meh. Not hot swappable, acoustics are bad since it's so open
@christianselig so you didnโ€™t stick to the Keychron Q8 eh? ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@forceunwrap I did! This is my old board haha
@christianselig do you still like it? I thought of getting one as well ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜…
@forceunwrap It's the best of a group of not very good options imo. ๐Ÿ˜› I'd give it a 7/10. Split should be bigger (it's not that split so the ergonomic benefits aren't *that* pronounced) and it should be wireless or at least have the option give it's already as thick as a 2x4
@christianselig @forceunwrap Iโ€™ve had a similar experience with the YMDK Split64. A good keyboard to sit on a stand as an art piece, but not great to type on.
@jakecarpenter @forceunwrap What didn't you like about it out of curiosity? The case looks a lot better/sturdier than my Quefrency

@christianselig itโ€™s solid for sure, but I find myself needing more than just a split. Linear keys or some kind of repositioning. I went from that to a Moonlander to a Sneakbox AVA.

Iโ€™d settle on the Moonlander or Ergodox/Redox if I could find a nice aluminum case for them.

@jakecarpenter Yeah the cases don't seem the most inspiring, I also don't really like the nonstandard keys which would make finding replacement caps hard :/

@christianselig I totally agree. It's one of the biggest things that drove me to an Alice-like layout. There are still some odd ones, but most sets will have something that fits everywhere (or at least close enough).

I still dream of the day when there's a killer split ergo keyboard from a mass-producer that drives adoption so we are more likely to get some cool ergo boards and keycaps.

@jakecarpenter I knowwww! So many of the keyboards are 95% there, I just don't know why it's so hard to take them all together and make something good and not weird ๐Ÿ˜›
@christianselig @jakecarpenter same hereโ€ฆ way too spoiled from having a nicely built, CNCโ€™d aluminum keeb ๐Ÿ˜…
The ai03 Orbit-X looks promising, but that would probably not arrive before โ€ฆ2025 ๐Ÿ˜‚.
@forceunwrap @jakecarpenter That falls into the "too quirky" category for me. I want dedicated number keys haha. Just make a normal split keyboard!

@christianselig @forceunwrap I would definitely try that one.

If the Type K (Alice) ever releases, it could be my endgame. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=107031.0

[IC] Type K - Tented Ergo keyboard (07/11/2022 - STATUS UPDATE)

@christianselig honestly not sure at this point if that would be too much for me as well. ๐Ÿ˜‚
F-row is fine, but numbersโ€ฆ
@forceunwrap Yeah I also don't like how they ditch the [] keys to save like one unit of width, I use those a lot and ideally would like to keep them in the same spot between my MacBook and laptop
@christianselig oh yeah totally. Iโ€™m anyway very afraid that switching back and forth between a columnar split and a regular staggered might mess with my brain. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@christianselig I was thinking "Odd pill organizer" while scrolling through mastodon ๐Ÿ˜‚
