I went to IKEA wearing a jacket with some yellow and blue and it took just one person asking me where the mirrors were before I had a small line of people asking me questions

I did pretty good overall!! But when I hit the first stumper I just said “hey sorry I just started here” and they understood but why did I say that

@cabel Back in the early 1990s I used to visit Blockbuster after work and about half the time I was wearing a blue oxford and khakis. It was pretty bad.

@cabel our family all dressed up in Star Wars-like attire for our trip to the Galactic Starcruiser, and on our day in Galaxy’s Edge, I was asked for help by sooooo many other guests. It didn’t help that we were all wearing pins that were kinda like those work by cast members. I tried to be as helpful as possible 😅

@cabel here in NL, there's a chain of garden centers where staff wear turquoise polos.
I went to one, got asked directions by people. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th person that I realized they thought I worked there, because of my turquoise shirt.
I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I went to a competitor. They wear green shirts.
Even there, someone came up to me and asked where they could find the roses. I still helped them out.

@cabel I wear all black. Guess how often people think I work wherever? Yeah. If I'm in a good mood I answer or tell them I dunno, if not I give them wrong info.

But claiming sanctuary membership in IKEA might be the safest choice.

@cabel that happens to me all the time at IKEA, probably because I tend to leave my coat in the car. One time it was especially bad, we were looking for a specific size shelve so I was carrying one of those paper rulers 🙈
