Also, you can buy good 7.5" hobby electronics eInk screens for less than $100, I've been waiting for this for years.

LCD screens are super addictive (as is the software design built on top of them).
E-Ink does a much better job of letting you go on with (or back to) the rest of your life. It's not backlit, it updates once per second, it's mostly useful as passive information displays (think Kindles).
Now that the unit price on eInk is available to hobbyists, I'm hopeful that we'll start to see a proliferation of "calm" technologies.
